Murray Wallace was “feeling good” after his side defeated Chesterfield 3-1 at Glanford Park, guaranteeing a League One play-off place in the process.
An own-goal from Paul McGinn got the Iron rolling, before Ivan Toney doubled the lead soon after.
Toney then scored a third mid-way through the second half to all-but seal the three points, despite Tom Anderson scoring a late consolation for the visitors. The result meant Chesterfield were relegated to League Two.
“I’m feeling good,” Wallace told The Iron PlayerHD.
“It was frustrating to concede the goal late on to prevent the clean sheet and making it three on the bounce.”
The Chesterfield match marked Wallace’s 51st game of the season, having played every minute of every game so far during the campaign. The Scot claimed he joined the club to get game time, and is happy to have got to such a feat in a memorable season.
The home side also created plenty of chances to have won the game by more than just the two goals, Wallace believes.
“I wanted to come here to play as many games as I could, and I’m delighted that I haven’t missed a game (this season)," he continued.
“They sat off us a little and allowed us to play, and maybe that’s why we didn’t have the same high tempo that we normally do.
“We had some good chances, one-on-ones, and we maybe should have won by more than two goals.”
Having scored on Friday at MK Dons, Ivan Toney made it three in his last two games to continue his fine form.
Wallace is backing the Newcastle-loannee to continue his hot streak, as United gear up for the Play Offs.
“We’ve got an abundance of quality strikers, so I think it’s good competition for him and keeps him on his toes, but he has a lot of quality.”
“We know what we would rather want, and that’s automatic promotion, but it’s out of our hands.
“It’s important we keep our confidence and form high going into the play-offs.”
The Iron travel to Swindon on Saturday, another side with relegation worries, before hosting already-relegated Coventry on the final day of the season.
Despite both sides being at the wrong end of the table, Wallace wants his side to respect them both, and do a professional job on the day.
“You’ve got to go there and respect them. Swindon are fighting for their lives, so it will be tough.
“Coventry are already down, but that doesn’t make them any less of a threat. We’ve got to go into those games and not think it will be easy.”
