UNDER-18 SIDE WIN 7-0 AT LINCOLN

20 November 2016

The Iron's Under-18 side won 7-0 in their local derby away at Lincoln City on Saturday morning.

James Dean Atkinson opened the scoring on seven minutes after a training ground corner routine paid off for the Iron.

United doubled their lead on 10 minutes when Dean-Atkinson found the back of the net again, after taking the ball around the home goalkeeper.

Scunthorpe had started the game with a real purpose and went 3-0 up on 21 minutes, when Leslie Sackey slotted home at the far post from a well-worked free-kick.

Excellent combination play between the strikers on 26 minutes saw Dean-Atkinson clip the ball through to George Barmby, who made no mistake putting the Iron into a four goal lead.

Sackey put a header over the bar on 30 minutes before Dean-Atkinson claimed his hat-trick on 35 after a Barmby cross.

The teams closed for half-time with Scunthorpe having scorched into a commanding 5-0 lead.

United started the second half in the same manner and when Barmby broke clear on 53 minutes, his excellent cut back found Dean-Atkinson - who curled the ball beyond the City keeper for his fourth goal of the game.

On 65 minutes, Sackey was on hand to finish off to make it 7-0 to the Iron.

Afterwards, academy manager Tony Daws said: "Our boys played some really good football today and showed a fantastic attitude and real quality in their play to bounce back after going out of the FA Youth Cup in midweek.

"Well done to all the boys, particularly Deano for scoring four goals."
