Under-18 side lose final game

22 April 2017

The Iron's Under-18 side were beaten 2-0 at Hartlepool in their final game of the season.

Scunthorpe started the game well, with Leslie Sackey's goalbound shot deflected over for a corner on six minutes.

Iron goalkeeper Adam Kelsey took a heavy aerial challenge from the giant Hartlepool striker on 36 minutes.

Moments later, the home team opened the scoring - although there was a suspicion of offside as the striker was all alone ten yards out.

Kelsey was unable to continue and was placed by Under-16 goalkeeper Sam Riches.

Hartlepool made it two on the hour as a cross from United's left side wasn't cut out and it saw a home player get in front of Scunthorpe's goalkeeper to slide the ball home.

The Iron fielded a much younger team than their opponents and worked hard to stay in the game but couldn't quite make the breakthrough.

Team: Kelsey (Riches, 40), Pugh, Butroid, Bartholomew (Kalu, 51), Lilley, Sackey (Moorfoot, 83), Busby (Barks, 85), Harrison, Allison, E Train, A Train.
Subs not used: Brugge.
