UNDER-18 SIDE EDGED OUT IN CUP CLASH

22 October 2016

The Iron's Under-18 side were beaten 2-1 at Burnley in the Youth Alliance Cup on Saturday.

United went a goal behind on 25 minutes, when goalkeeper Adam Kelsey brought down the Burnley striker as he went through. The home team scored from the penalty spot.

The Iron levelled on 82 minutes when Leslie Sackey curled an excellent shot from wide, on the right side of the penalty area, past the home goalkeeper - much to the delight of his team mates.

The game was evenly balanced with both teams going for the winner, with the visitors forcing the play.

But, on 94 minutes, the home team won the game when a cross from the left was turned home at the near post.

Academy manager Tony Daws said: "Our lads were excellent today and really deserved to get something from the game."

Iron team: Kelsey, McMichael, Butroid, Porter, Lilley, Sackey, Dean Atkinson (Busby, 80), Hornshaw, Barmby (Train, 15), Allasan (Bartholomew, 75), Sithole.
Unused sub: Parker.
