UNDER-18 SIDE DEFEAT CHESTERFIELD

16 December 2016

The Iron's Under-18 side defeated Chesterfield 3-0 in their final game of 2016.

A good start saw George Hornshaw notch his fifth goal of the season after only two minutes, firing home from just inside the penalty area.

Home goalkeeper Adam Kelsey was in fine form, making a number of excellent saves to keep the Iron's lead secure as the teams went in at half-time.

United made a great start to the second half and scored within a minute of the restart.

The referee spotted a pull on an Iron shirt and James Dean-Atkinson was on hand to put the penalty away.

Excellent combination play between Dean-Atkinson and Harvey Ablett saw the latter break clear into the box before firing his effort high into the roof of the Spireites goal on the hour to seal the three points.

Academy manager Tony Daws said: "Our players were excellent in all areas today. Well done lads."

Scunthorpe United: Kelsey, McMichael, Bartholomew, Porter, Lilley, Sackey, Busby, Hornshaw, Barmby (Ablett, 56), Dean-Atkinson (Allasan, 60), Train.
Substitutes not used: Collins, Colclough.
