MORRIS: "WE'VE GOT TO TAKE CONFIDENCE FROM IT"

24 August 2016

Reflecting on United’s 2-1 extra time loss to Bristol City in the EFL Cup, midfielder Josh Morris feels there were plenty of positives to take from the game.

The Iron midfielder believes that matching the Championship side for large periods of the match is both encouraging and bodes well going forward.

Speaking to The Iron PlayerHD, Morris said: “It was a tough game for us, against a very good side.

“They moved the ball well in the first half, and in the second we managed to get to grips with it, scored a goal and obviously made it a close finish.

“They are a good side, and you can see the difference in quality which they have. It was a good test for us though, and I thought we stood up well to it in the second half and created some opportunities of our own.

“You’ve got to test yourselves against the better teams in the higher divisions, and we’ve obviously had a good run.”

It was the second time Scunthorpe have been taken all the way in the competition, (having defeated Notts County after extra time in the previous round) and the 24-year-old says it was a tough physical test - but one everyone came through well.

He explained: “If you look at the game it was quite stretched towards the end of extra time, and there were a lot of tired players out there.

“Obviously with it being Saturday/Tuesday it was tough, but we rallied well and created some good chances.”

Attention now shifts back to League One, with a trip to Port Vale on Saturday, with Morris stating the whole squad will head to Vale Park in a positive frame of mind.

“We’re disappointed to lose tonight, don’t get me wrong. However, we’ll go to Saturday now, full of confidence and get back to league action,” he stated.

“It’ll be a tough game again, but we’re obviously back to the league, and we’re on form.

“So we’ve got to take a lot of confidence into that. It’ll be a tough away game, but we’ve got to treat it just like any other one, and hopefully get a positive result to go with it.”
