MORRIS SCOOPS PLAYER OF THE MONTH ACCOLADE

9 September 2016

Iron winger Josh Morris has been named the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month for August.

The 24-year-old rejoined manager Graham Alexander in the summer and has so far found the winning formula on the pitch and in front of goal, netting five league goals along with two assists.

United boss Graham Alexander said: "Josh has been superb since pre-season. He came in and has really showcased his skills and abilities and has carried that into the season. His energy is great for the team and his quality on the ball, goals and assists have been a big bonus for us.

"To have six goals this early in the season is fantastic for Josh and he's really made his presence felt within the squad. Players get this recognition on the back of the whole team being successful. Josh, as well as many other players, have played a part in our results so far and he knows as much as anybody the team comes first. The award is very much deserved."

Morris added: "I'm delighted to get the award. It's a nice one to have following the start to the season and obviously my thanks go to my teammates and the manager and hopefully I can carry that on now.

"It's a great way to start. We've obviously had a good set of results as a team and you get noticed if you're a part of a successful team and I've scored a few goals as well. I've settled in at Scunthorpe really well and I'm thankful for my teammates as well who have helped make it happen.”

Sky Sports’ Football League pundit Don Goodman said: "A return of five goals and two assists is fantastic at any level and Morris’ contribution has propelled Scunthorpe to fifth place in Sky Bet League One.

"It is imperative that wingers are able to go both ways in modern day football and Morris is as dangerous down the wing crossing the ball as he is cutting inside. He will be hoping that he can keep up this form under a manager he knows very well."

Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery said: "Josh Morris has started life at his new club Scunthorpe in emphatic goalscoring fashion.

"The classy left-winger netted five times in five games for his new club after a free-transfer from Bradford this summer.

"After such a prolific start to the season he is currently a 12/1 shot to finish the season as the league’s top marksman."

The Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month Award went to Conor Hourihane of Barnsley.

In Sky Bet League Two, Doncaster Rovers midfielder James Coppinger was named Player of the Month.

The judging panel for the Sky Bet Player of the Month comprises Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman; EFL Communications Director Mark Rowan, League Managers’ Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery.
