Iron assistant manager Chris Lucketti was thoroughly delighted with his side's showing as three points were collected in the top-two battle.
Bury drop to third following the defeat with United opening up a three point gap at the league's summit with Bradford City up to second.
"We're delighted," Lucketti told The Iron PlayerHD.
"It was a fantastic performance from start to finish and we got our rewards. We deserved the three points and I can't fault anyone. Every single player through the squad was magnificent today and it was a real team effort.
"It was a physical test today defensively with the problems they caused us.
"Tom Pope is an experienced striker and gets himself about. Bury play to his strengths and we had to deal with that and we did. The back four were superb today.
"It's only three points, that's all we've gained. But to do it against teams in and around you makes it extra special and Bury are there for a reason. They're on a good run and it was nice to put and end to that run and get three points."
Scott Wiseman grabbed his first goal in Scunthorpe colours in the first half, powering home after a drilled pull-back from Tom Hopper.
"Scott was up for the free kick and we played some nice football," he continued.
"Rather than putting the ball straight into the box, we played some intricate football down the wing and Wisey was there 'Johnny on the spot" to finish with uplong."
Josh Morris added to his ever growing tally with what is probably his best goal yet, curling the ball into the top corner from 25-yards out.
His latest strike, following his hat-trick in midweek, took his tally to eleven league goals for the campaign, eleven games into the campaign.
"It's a fantastic goal and worthy to win any game of football," he said.
"Josh is playing out of this world and he's a great character and a great pro on and off the pitch. He's getting his rewards. He works ever so hard off the pitch and he's getting his rewards on the pitch."
Both Lucketti and First Team Coach Nick Daws returned to their former club, with both spending a number of years at Gigg Lane as players.
"It's nice to get three points anywhere," he stated.
"Bury holds some special memories for myself and Nick (Daws) but that is the past. Today was about the here and now and it was a great three points.
"It was a great game for a neutral supporter to watch and a lot of commitment from both sides. Both teams went toe-to-toe and battled for the three points.
"We've had different kinds of tests. Tuesday was a footballing test, today was more physical. The lads are dealing with all kinds of tests."
