IRON UNDER-18 SIDE DRAW AT BRADFORD

4 February 2017

The Iron's Under-18 side drew 1-1 away at Bradford City on Saturday morning.

United played really well and had three good chances to score in the opening 15 minutes, but fell behind much against the run of play on 18 minutes.

Much to everyone's surprise, the referee awarded a free-kick on the edge of the Iron's penalty area and Bradford curled the ball in the top corner.

United responded really well and were awarded a penalty on 20 minutes.

James Dean-Atkinson stepped forward but saw his effort saved.

The Iron youngsters increased their efforts further but couldn't quite find the finishing touch in front of goal.

Bradford's striker was shown a straight red on 39 minutes after an off-the-ball incident.

On 43 minutes, right-back Lewis McMichael played a one-two with George Barmby on the edge of the City box and McMichael fired the Iron level to record his first goal of the season.

Scunthorpe really went for it in the second half but were constantly thwarted by City's keeper, who was in fine form and stopped everything that was fired at him.

United were really dominating but couldn't find the second goal that their excellent attacking play deserved.

Academy manager Tony Daws said: "All of our players were excellent today, we played very well but didn't get the win that we deserved."

Iron team: Kelsey, McMichael, Butroid, Porter, Lilley, Sackey, Allasan, Hornshaw, Barmby, Dean-Atkinson, Sithole.
Substitutes not used: Ablett, Riches, Train, Bartholomew, Busby.
