GAMES YOU WANT TO BE INVOLVED IN

30 September 2016

Midfielder Sam Mantom says fixtures like Saturday’s away at Bury are “the games you want to be involved in”, with the two top sides in League One going head-to-head.

The Iron go into the encounter at Gigg Lane brimming with confidence, following Tuesday’s comprehensive victory over Walsall, a view echoed by Mantom.

Speaking to The Iron PlayerHD, Mantom said: “The lads are in a good place, and we can’t wait for the game on Saturday.

“It’s the games you want to be involved in. Obviously with it being first versus second, everyone’s going to be looking at it as a big game, and we’ll be doing all we can to take three points from Bury.

“We’re ten games in now, so you can start to look at teams’ form, and their results. We’re really happy to be up there, and we want to win every game, and I’m sure the teams below us will keep trying to catch us.”

The 24-year-old believes the performance against the Saddlers was the most complete of the campaign so far, but stated it must be a springboard for many more displays of the same nature.

“It was excellent, and us having a chance after a few seconds really set the tone for how we played,” he stated.

“Bar five minutes at the end of the first half, we completely dominated, and it was fantastic to see the lads running riot against a good Walsall team.

“For large chunks of the game we were on top, we dominated the game, we were in control of the ball, and never really gave Walsall a sniff. I feel we can try and build on that now.”

Mantom started in the league for the first time since August, and he felt facing his former side in Walsall just added an extra dimension to the occasion.

“It was really good,” he revealed.

“I found out a few hours before the game, that I was playing. I’m not going to lie, I was a tad nervous ahead of the game, with me obviously going back to my former club.

“It was nice to go there and beat them 4-1, but once the whistle went it was back to reality, and the aim was to try and get three points.”
