EXPECTING 'A PROPER GAME'

23 September 2016

Iron midfielder Duane Holmes is expecting a real battle when Sheffield United visit Glanford Park this Saturday.

Both sides go into the match on the back of a good run of form, and Holmes stated the Blades will be coming for no less than three points.

Speaking to The Iron PlayerHD, Holmes said: “I think it’ll be a proper game.

“I don’t think they’ll come and set up to not get beat - I think they’ll want to win the game.

“They’ve sold out their allocation of tickets, so I imagine it’ll be a good atmosphere and a good game.”

Giving his take on Tuesday night’s goalless draw with Charlton Athletic, the American stated it was a type of game which was always going to crop up at least once in the season.

Taking that into account, he believes no-one should be too disappointed with the point, given the circumstances.

“The manager said to us that it was a tough game,” he revealed.

“We saw straight away from the teamsheet how they were going to set up, and I think he (Graham Alexander) was happy with the point.

“Sides know how dangerous we are at home. We’re scoring a lot of goals and not conceding many, so I think that’s something we’ll see more and more.”

Analysing his start to life in North Lincolnshire, the 21-year-old says he’s been delighted with the faith manager Graham Alexander has shown in him, in his short time at the club.

Holmes did reveal though, that goals are something he’s looking to add into his game - having not found the net competitively for Scunthorpe so far.

He explained: “It’s good. The manager said he’d put his trust in me, and he’s backed that up, so I’m thankful for the opportunities he’s giving me.

“I feel as though I should have had one by now (a goal), but I’ve obviously got to keep shooting when I’m getting the chances and one will roll in eventually I’m sure.

“However, it’s going well. Sometimes my legs feel like lead because I’m not used to all the games, with me having a stagnant last couple of years. So it’s just about getting games back into my legs and I feel like I’m doing well.”
