DELIGHTED TO BE OFF THE MARK

29 July 2016

United midfielder Josh Morris says he’s pleased to be off the mark for the club, after finding the net in Tuesday night’s victory over Rotherham United.

Morris stated that despite his strike against the Millers only being in pre-season, it’s an early indication of what he can do, and more importantly it shows the supporters what he’s capable of.

Looking at the game as a whole, the 24-year-old felt it was a good challenge for him and his teammates, given the visitors’ Championship pedigree.

Speaking to The Iron PlayerHD, Morris said: “It was a good performance from the lads, and it was good to get my first goal for the club as well, as well as getting a win to carry us on into the season.

“It’s nice to take a bit of pressure off and show the fans and everybody what I’m about. So hopefully I can kick on now.

“They’re a league above, and they obviously stayed up last year, as well as it being nice to test ourselves against the division above."

The former Blackburn Rovers man was the first new face to join the Iron over the summer, and he revealed it’s been a very rapid settling in period.

He spoke of how the training camp in Austria aided that process, whilst adding he can’t wait to get started for real.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge, and I’ve settled in really well,” he revealed.

“The lads are really good, and obviously going away to Austria gave me a chance to get to know them. So I’m just looking forward to the season now."

Hartlepool United are Scunthorpe’s final opponents in a pre-season which has seen them face all levels of competition, something Morris believes is a huge plus point heading into the opening day clash with Bristol Rovers.

“They’re all competitive in their different ways, and playing against Premier League players, you get punished if you make mistakes,” he stated.

“I think coming up against a League Two side will mean it’s going to be more of a physical game, and it’s one we’re looking forward to."
