CLUB STATEMENT: JONATHON MARGETTS

3 February 2017

Late yesterday afternoon, the board of Scunthorpe United became aware that there might be an issue with the loan move of Jonathon Margetts to Crewe Alexandra.

This is due to FIFA’s rules and regulations regarding player appearances and contracts for the 2016-17 season, which means players are only permitted to make competitive appearances for a maximum of two teams they are contracted to during any one campaign.

Our subsequent understanding is that the rules this year have been modified, so players who have played for National League clubs are also affected by the regulation.

When SUFC became aware of the issue, we immediately contacted the EFL, FA and Crewe to investigate, and then stopped him playing for Crewe tomorrow to avoid any further complications.

Therefore, Jonathon will now return to Glanford Park.

Please note, the situation with Kyle Wootton’s loan move to Cheltenham Town is different because his loan spell at North Ferriby United wasn’t a standard window-to-window loan. It was a 93-day youth loan. Therefore, Kyle is able to continue his loan with Cheltenham Town.
