CLUB STATEMENT

Iron CEO James Rodwell spoke today about isolated anti-social behaviour at Glanford Park.

“Yesterday was a great day for the Iron. We showcased exactly what the football club is all about – grit, determination and steel. That was no more evident than in the performance of our players.

It was a great advert for League One football, in which a very good Bradford City side more than played their part. We were delighted with our hard-fought victory and it showcased to the entire nation what a good standard of football there is in this division.

However, the day risked being overshadowed by the idiotic actions of a mindless few.

As anybody who was at the game or watching on the TV would be aware, the minute’s silence was impeccably observed by everybody in the ground other than one mindless idiot, who decided to shout out an insult to the Bradford City fans. Clearly, this is not what we as a football club or our supporters are about. We are a respectful football club, and we pride ourselves on doing things the right way.

As such, we would ask any true Scunthorpe United fan to help us point out the individual who was responsible for this crass act of stupidity. If you have any information, please visit the club, call 01724 840139 or email feedback@scunthorpe-united.co.uk

We are currently trawling through the CCTV footage to see if we can identify the culprit. When this person is found, they will be banned from the stadium until they learn some respect.

Unfortunately, the increasing habit of bringing flares to football matches was again prevalent in the stadium yesterday.

While we do all within our power to stop people bringing flares into Glanford Park (even to the extent of having sniffer dogs around the terraces), it is unfortunately almost impossible to stop the most determined culprits from bringing them into the ground because of the size of the object.

Yesterday, we saw one of our fans subjected to a panic attack brought on by the mindless throwing of flares. We would again ask our fans to help point out culprits. Please, when this happens, if you can point out the culprits to the stewards or the police this would be most appreciated and would help us eradicate these acts of stupidity. If you have any information regarding yesterday, please visit the club, call 01724 840139 or email feedback@scunthorpe-united.co.uk.

We really don’t want this to take away from what was a splendid day yesterday, which showcased to the country that Scunthorpe United are back on track.

We ask our fans always to get behind the manager and the team, but acts of this nature are not welcome at Glanford Park and as such we will do everything in our power to stamp it out.

We want Glanford Park to be a safe enjoyable place to watch football.”
