The Iron go into their second round EFL Cup encounter with Bristol City at Glanford Park full of confidence after Saturday’s resounding victory over Gillingham.
Graham Alexander’s men were unstoppable as they put five past the Gills without reply, and it’s form they’ll be looking to take into the clash with Lee Johnson’s Championship side.
The Robins are sure to provide a stern test though, after making a positive start to their own campaign.
On the injury front, Alexander revealed there’s not been much change in the condition of several players who sat out the weekend’s victory, but did have some good news regarding Duane Holmes, who was forced off early on against Gillingham.
Holmes has trained ahead of the match, and Alexander says he expects the American to be given the green light for the clash with City.
As for the likes of Paddy Madden and Sam Mantom, the encounter comes too soon for them to be involved, and the Iron boss says they’ll be continued to be monitored, with a trip to Port Vale on the horizon.
City emerged 2-0 victors the last time the two sides met, back in January of 2015. Goals from Jay Emmanuel-Thomas and Luke Freeman sealed the points for the away side, to keep them level on points with Swindon Town at the top of League One.
It wasn’t only the scoreline in which United suffered a blow either, as both Sam Slocombe and James Severn suffered broken arms during the match, leaving defender Andrew Boyce to cover in goal.
Since arriving on loan from Chelsea at the beginning of the campaign, striker Tammy Abraham has gone onto make a real impact at Ashton Gate.
Abraham, who is only 18, has so far netted four times in just five appearances for the club - including a brace against newly promoted Burton Albion.
He was handed his Chelsea debut at the end of the 2015/2016 season, coming on as a substitute in a Premier League match against Liverpool. He then featured again, on the final day of the campaign, once more coming off the bench, this time against champions Leicester City.
