ANOTHER TOUGH WEEK-AND-A-HALF TO GO

28 July 2016

Charlie Goode was understandably pleased with the 2-1 victory over Championship side Rotherham United at Glanford Park on Tuesday night.

Kevin van Veen put the Iron ahead on 18 minutes, but Richard Wood struck back for the visitors not long after. However, it was the hosts who would find the winner, courtesy of a Josh Morris beauty in the final ten minutes.

“We got the ball down at times, and opened them up,” Goode told The Iron PlayerHD.

“However, it’s all about getting minutes into us all currently.”

Goode started the game, and gained plenty of plaudits on social media from the Iron faithful at full time for his impressive display. The player himself says he feels good and raring to go for the season, which starts on August 6 when the team welcome Bristol Rovers to Glanford Park.

“I personally felt pretty good, and I think a lot of the other guys did. There’s not long to go until the start of the campaign, but we’ve got another tough week-and-a-half to go," he said.

“It’s good for me. Obviously the first one was me just getting to grips with the professional game, and now I’ve done that it’s about working hard and trying to force myself into the team.

“I need to try and get more (games) than I did last season, and become a more regular player in the team.”

Goode was pleased with not only the performance, but also the fact that they got the better of a team who is preparing for Championship football this coming season too.

“It’s always good to play against opposition from a level above, and it’s a good test for us," he stated.

“Much like Hull at the weekend, we lost 2-0, but we came out tonight and won. It’s not about results, but it’s still a good performance.”

Graham Alexander has been able to keep the core of an Iron squad that finished last season so well together, and he has also brought in more quality too, and Goode believes that mixture will be enough to continue how they finished the last campaign.

“I think we’re looking strong, we’ve got a good few players in every area and on our day I feel we can beat anyone," he said.

“We’ve just got to play how we finished last season and hopefully we’ll be in and around it once more.”
