ALEXANDER SCOOPS NOVEMBER MANAGER OF THE MONTH AWARD

9 December 2016

Iron manager Graham Alexander has been named the Sky Bet League One Manager of the Month for November.

It comes following three league wins and a draw during November's four league matches.

Alexander said: "I'm delighted for the players, the staff and the team who all work extremely hard to produce results. Any recognition we get, whether it's me or the players, it is always based on the team's results and performances and they've been superb.

"Every credit goes to those who have played their part in the team and that's all the way through the staff and the players - even the ones who haven't played because they train so well and push the boys who are getting the starts so hard.

"We want to do both sides of the game, it's about creating chances and attacking well and also defending well and we've done that. It's become hard to score more than one or two goals because teams are setting up against us in certain ways, but on the other side of it, we are defending really well as a team that has kept us clean sheets and helped win us points.

"There's a lot of work that goes in place by a lot of people and if one of those slacks, player or staff, we don't get a result, so a pat on the back for everybody who is putting their full work ethic and expertise into the job and long may it continue."

George Burley chairs the Sky Bet Manager of the Month judging panel. He said: “Graham is having a great season with Scunthorpe United and this was his third nomination in four months, which shows how consistent they have been this season.”

Sky Sports’ EFL pundit Don Goodman said: “Three wins and a draw to solidify their place at the top of Sky Bet League One would have left Graham Alexander a happy man looking back on November.

“The victories were built on a solid defensive organisation and resilience with only one goal conceded all month.”

Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery said: “Since Alexander took over the reins at Glanford Park in March he has steered Scunthorpe up the table – they were extremely unlucky to just miss out on the play-offs on goal difference after winning the last six games of last season.

“The Iron were 20/1 shots at the start of the season, but having carried on where they left off last term, they’re now 15/8 joint favourites along with Sheffield United for the League One crown.”
