A VERY PROUD MOMENT FOR ME

24 October 2016

Reflecting on his first league start for the club, Levi Sutton says the achievement fills him with an enormous sense of pride.

Sutton played the full 90 minutes as Scunthorpe ran out 3-0 winners over Chesterfield at the Proact Stadium, and the 20-year-old couldn’t hide his elation.

Speaking to The Iron PlayerHD, Sutton said: “I’m absolutely delighted, with me being a local lad from Scunthorpe.

“The manager having a bit of faith in me to put me in from the start means the world to me. With my family here today too, makes it a very proud moment for me.

“Playing for my local team is very special and now I need to push on and hopefully the team will push on now.

“Any game I want to do my best in, but in the first team you’re given an opportunity to impress the manager, and hopefully I’ve done that.”

The result sees the Iron go five points clear at the top of the League One table and, while Sutton believes the win is an important one, he insisted no one is getting ahead of themselves.

“It’s a massive victory. To come in and see the results have gone our way is great, but we need to push forward now,” he stated.

“We want to be up there and we’re at the top now, so we need to just keep pushing forward. We showed today that we’re a top class team and we deserve to be where we are.

“There were a lot of fans that came and when the goals go in there’s no other feeling like it. I’m absolutely delighted.

“The dressing room was buzzing afterwards. I’ve been around an environment like it, but to be a part of it was a lot different.”

Ahead of Swindon Town’s visit next Saturday, the United man feels it’s important not to deviate from what’s brought success so far.

He praised the quality of the Scunthorpe squad and, added that if everyone performs to their maximum, they’ve a great chance of another three points.

“We need to focus on us,” Sutton explained.

“That’s all we can do. I think we’re a good enough team to put anyone in this league away, so hopefully we’ll do well.”
