Preview: Gloucester City (A)

19 April 2024

The Iron travel to Gloucester City for their final league game of the season on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

After securing a second place finish and winning the Lincolnshire Senior Cup on Wednesday night, the Iron will be hoping to build on our 5-1 victory over Blyth Spartans on home soil last time out in the league.

The reverse fixture against Gloucester City was a comfortable 2-0 victory at the Attis Arena. Jacob Butterfield opened the score in the 18th minute with a fantastic long range effort hit with power. Danny Whitehall got himself on the scoresheet, six minutes after the interval with a penalty and the Iron saw the game out from there.

For a game that either team has nothing to play for in the league, both sides will be playing for pride on Saturday with the Iron having a chance to continue their momentum for the play-offs.

IRON TEAM NEWS

Jimmy Dean declared in his pre-match press conference that full-back Tyler Denton's season is likely to be over following an early tackle on him a week ago which saw him withdrawn inside 10 minutes.

Our opposition have truly had a season to forget, Gloucester sit 23rd in the league, already relegated with just 36 points. Gloucester’s defence has conceded 87 goals this season and have conceded 13 goals in their last three games.

These defensive vulnerabilities will be an element of their game the Iron will be looking to capitalise on, comeing into this game with nine goals scored in the last two fixtures.
