Report: Iron Under-18s 0-0 Burton Albion Under-18s

31 August 2018

The Iron’s Under-18 side drew 0-0 against Burton Albion on Friday afternoon at Brumby Hall.

United started the game brightly with a few chances, before the visitors grew into the game.

In the 13th minute, the Iron switched the ball to Joe Busby, who crossed it into the area. However, Levi Gallimore directed his header over the crossbar.

Then three minutes later, good passing movement enabled Harry Baker to slide an inviting ball across the six-yard box, but it unfortunately evaded everyone.

The Iron continued to push for an opening goal when Aidan Train whipped in a free-kick towards Gallimore at the far post, but he saw his header go just wide of the target.

Burton then came back into the game with a couple of chances. The first of which was hit wide and then shortly after they struck the outside of the post, with the ball rebounding wide.

The second period was fairly even, but the first big chance of the half fell to the Brewers. Their centre forward met a cross on the volley in the 72nd minute, which went over.

A few minutes later, the Iron progressed up the other end with Miracle Okafor on the left-side, but Louis Collins' header was straight at the goalkeeper.

Burton did have the ball in the back of the net not long after. They took a wide free-kick and the ball went in off the back post. However, the linesman had raised his flag for offside and the goal was disallowed.

Okafor came forward once more for Scunthorpe after being played through by Gallimore. He approached the box going one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but Okafor hit it straight at him.

In the final five minutes, a well-worked corner routine from the Iron got Baker in at the back post. However, his volley was stopped by the Burton goalkeeper.

The Iron players were praised for their endeavour and effort after the game, but a bit more quality in the final third was needed.

Iron team: Riches, Baker, Train, Harrison, Barks, Morfoot, Shrimpton (Chadli, 63), L Collins, Okafor (Colclough, 87), Gallimore, Busby (Jessop, 70).
Substitutes not used: T Collins.
