HARE SCORES IN YOUTH LOSS

14 September 2013

The Iron's youth team were defeated 2-1 at Hull City on Saturday morning.

The visitors went a goal ahead on 15 minutes when Hakeeb Adelakun's corner was met with a bullet-like diving header at the far post by Taron Hare.

Seven minutes later though, the Tigers were handed the chance to level from the penalty spot when Jack Bowskin made a lunging challenge in the penalty area. The hosts took the opportunity.

In the 43rd minute, Scunthorpe almost regained their lead when Kyle Wootton's header was tipped against the crossbar by the City goalkeeper.

On 66 minutes, the Tigers took the lead when Connor Smythe did well to head a cross clear at the far post only to see the shot come in from the edge of the box unchallenged and skid past Pat Weaver in Scunthorpe's goal.

With minutes to go, United searched for an equaliser, forcing the home side back from numerous Hare throw-ins, and Wootton saw a header once again hit the crossbar.

After the game, Tony Daws said: "It was an excellent game. We felt we competed well and possibly deserved to get something from the match against a very good Hull team."
