JUNIORS BEAT ROTHERHAM 3-0

17 August 2013

The Iron’s youth team beat their Rotherham United counterparts 3-0 on Saturday morning.

The hosts went 1-0 up on 45 seconds when Noel Burdett broke clear and his low drive beat the Millers goalkeeper but rebounded back off the post into the path of Kyle Wootton, who made no mistake firing high into the roof of the net.

Almost instantly, Zac Cowling was on hand to clear off the line for United as the Millers tried to level.

On 19 minutes, a Billy Beresford corner was met by Taron Hare who saw his header cleared off the line as the Iron dominated.

United goalkeeper Pat Weaver had to make a save on 27 minutes, tipping over a 25 yard effort to keep the visitors out.

On 33 minutes, Scunthorpe stretched their lead to 2-0 when an excellent throughball from Hakeeb Adelakun found Burdett and this time the young striker finished with quality, beating the away goalkeeper with a low drive.

The away side were working hard to get back in the game and nearly did so on 58 minutes as Hare tried to make a last ditch tackle to deny the Millers.

The Iron youngsters then killed the game off in the 75th minute when Wootton worked hard to close down the goalkeeper and his effort rolled over the line much to the delight of his team-mates.

Adelakun had a chance to make it four with ten minutes left but his effort was blocked on the line.

The win came despite in-form striker Curtis Bateson being unavailable after damaging ankle ligaments in the reserves' midweek clash at Hull.
